About S.A.F.E.
The SAFE Project is a voluntary organisation based in Middlesbrough offering a free support service for men who wish to stop behaving violently or abusively to their wife/partner.
The project as been in operation since 2005 and has the full backing of the Middlesbrough Domestic Violence Forum and Redcar & Cleveland Violence against women Forum.
We take both self and agency referrals.
Programmes take place in Middlesbrough and Redcar.
The Big Lottery (Reaching Communities) and Middlesbrough Borough Council currently fund the project.
Staff have over 20 years experience is the field of domestic violence and work to Respect* minimum standards and Guidelines.
All men who refer or are referred to the project are offered assessments to determine suitability for the programme.
Criteria Include:

Acknowledgement of abuse and or violence

See violence/abuse as a problem

Accepts some responsibility for violence/abuse

Agree to the conditions of attendance
Abusive behaviour is behaviour of choice and the programme incorporates cognitive and educational approaches to challenge and change abusive and violent attitudes and behaviour. The programme runs over a period of 30 weeks.
